This scenic seaside town is most famous for its busy fishing harbour and is located approximately twenty minutes from Cape Town’s city centre. This little coastal suburb is a former fishing village but its working harbour is still teeming with tuna and crayfishing industry. Hout Bay is bordered by Cape Town’s towering mountains, protecting the bay and providing a lovely long stretch of sandy beach that is popular with both tourists and locals. Great for swimming and a variety of other sea-sports such as surfing, sailing, and sea-kayaking, Hout Bay beach is a bustling place favoured by local dog-walkers, horse-riders, and families. The rules around dog-walking are quite specific, so take note:
- No dogs are allowed on Chapman’s Peak side or Mariner’s Warf side.
- Dogs are often seen running free in the middle section of the beach.
The relatively flat middle section of Hout Bay beach and the mostly smooth ocean is great for your best four-legged friend, so think of lots of ball games, running, and swimming with your pup.
