Long Beach, Kommetjie

This lovely little seaside town in the Western Cape is situated on the west coast of the Cape Peninsula and is well-known for its wide variety of animal and plant life. Keep an eye out for the town’s famous troop of baboons that visit the suburbs on occasion. Long Beach is the main beach located within the tranquil coastal town of Kommetjie. A length of almost 8 km makes this one of Cape Town’s longest beaches, hence its name. This spot is great for surfing and bodyboarding. Long Beach is well-known as a dog-friendly beach, so this is a perfect spot if you and your pup are longing for a seaside stroll. Keep an eye out for the Kakapo shipwreck, a well-preserved wreck from the 1900s that can be found further along towards Noordhoek Beach. Long Beach is the perfect place for a long and leisurely stroll with your pup but can be quite exposed to the wind so plan for a day when the wind is relatively calm. Dogs are more than welcome to run off-lead but keep an eye out for horses, as this is also a popular place for horse-back rides.
