An exceptionally beautiful seaside resort, Melbosstrand is lined by seven kilometres of white sandy beach. With a relaxed, holiday-like vibe, ‘Melkbos’ is home to a Blue Flag Beach, and welcomes all dogs. Melkbosstrand, fondly known as ‘Melkies’ to the locals, is found only 30 kilometres north of Cape Town. Because it is so popular with dog-walkers, you can expect it to get quite busy, so it is best to keep your pup on-lead. Also, the City of Cape Town is quite strict with its rules regarding dogs on beaches, especially at the Melkbosstrand Main Beach. Take note of the following:
- No dogs allowed between December and March from 09:00 to 19:00.
- Dogs on lead allowed between December and March before 09:00 and after 19:00.
- Dogs allowed on lead at all times between April and November.
Nonetheless, Melkies is most definitely a dog-friendly place and is ideal for a peaceful stroll with your pup. Best of all, there are a number of restaurants and coffee shops that welcome friendly pups.
