Who are we?

We are Samanta and Quintin and we are from beautiful and sunny South Africa. We are lucky to share our lives with three doggy companions.

We love travelling, but we love our dogs too! One day, a few years back, we decided to treat our dogs and ourselves to a lovely long-weekend away. We wanted a self-catering place, not too far from home, that would welcome our rambunctious bunch - at that time - of six rescue dogs (of all shapes and sizes). At first, it was tough to find somewhere suitable, mostly because we didn't know where to look. We spent hours on various social media sites and search platforms trying to find the place for us. Finally, we found it, but it took us ages. It was then that we decided to develop an online directory where we could access everything we needed for our dogs. Be it a local, dog-friendly coffee shop, emergency vet services, organic doggy treats, or our nearest pet salon, we wanted to be able to go to one place to find it. So, we developed Place for Paws. Regardless of what you need for your pups, we want to make sure you can find it here, simply and easily. Our dogs are our family, and we're sure you feel the same! Welcome to our family! We hope you find what you need here at Place for Paws.

Our dogs are:

Illy

We adopted Illy from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) in Regents Park, Johannesburg, in 2008, with her sister Tia, when they were 4 months old. Many years later, a DNA test indicated that Illy and Tia were 75% pug and 15% bull terrier! llly is still going strong at 16 years old. She is a tough old lady and still loves her nature walks and paddling in the river. Illy also loves napping and treasure hunts in the garden. Illy is a gentle and affectionate dog and loves to cuddle.

Zeus

We adopted Zeus from Great Dane Rescue SA when he was 6 months old. His previous guardians felt he was getting too big for their home and made the responsible choice to re-home him through a reputable welfare organisation. Zeus is a goofy giant, and like any Great Dane, has no idea how big he is! He is almost 8 years old now but still behaves like a puppy. Zeus loves chewing on cardboard toilet rolls and sitting on people's laps. Zeus has a really soft heart.

Poppy

Poppy had a bit of a rough start to life. Poppy was found with her sister and her mom on the streets of Alberton at approximately 4 weeks of age. A few months later, Poppy's sister found a forever home, and Poppy became a foster fail, which means we decided to adopt her. Poppy is now 5 years old and is a feisty little lady. She absolutely loves playing, jumping, running, rolling, and sniffing. Poppy is such a brave dog, especially after her tough start in life.

They love their daily walks!

Have a look at a video we took one chilly winter afternoon. The dogs had been cooped up all morning, so were happy to get out and about. Lots of sniffing, rolling, and running took place that day. The dogs had so much fun! We decided to put some calm and relaxing music to the video and we often pop it on if there are loud noises or disturbances outside. It keeps the pups relaxed and helps with any anxiety.
